INDUSTRY NEWS AND REVIEWS
Our Industry News and Reviews page is about anything industry related, as well as digital technology and/or products that go well with our covers and accessories.
Mobile Recycling:
If you were lucky enough to receive a new mobile phone for Christmas, don’t throw out your old phone. Get thrifty and sell it to the highest bidder on eBay? Or failing that, it should be recycled - along with any old batteries and accessories.
MobileMuster website for information on the nearest location where you can recycle your used phones and how else you can help. Their goal by 2008 is to treble the annual collection (from 50 to 150 tonnes pa) and half the amount going to landfill.
So make sure you do your bit to help - you will not only be saving our natural resources but also helping protect our precious environment!
Of course, if you're really serious about a recycling alternative, you could always snavel one of these organic phone covers that you can bury in your backyard?
General recycling:
Lastly (whilst I still have my Greenies hat on), it’s time to recycle our unwanted Christmas and greeting cards. Until the end of January, most Coles Supermarkets have Planet Ark recycle bins. If your local Coles does not, you can also pick up postage-paid recycling envelopes from participating Australia Post outlets. Go to the Planet Ark website for more information on all sorts of recycling; or call their National Recycling Hotline – 1300 733 712.
Technology from around the Globe:
Our Industry News and Reviews page now also has technology news releases from around the world, updated periodically (via Digg Newsfeed).
PRODUCTS NEWS
We're not launching any new products this newsletter, though we must say our Mui Mui phone pouches previously released are really going down well ... like we said, they're great for summer - so bright and cheery!
Sumajin, designers and manufacturers of the Smartwrap and Funky Earpads released last month, have won numerous design awards and received mentions in magazines and online review sites. I came across a (slightly cheeky & humorous) review of the Smartwrap from iPoditude.com. If you're a cat owner, you probably should check it out though keep in mind that it is somewhat dated now and is US based and priced.... Just beware when reading some of his sites comments - it gets hit with some obnoxious spam.
THIS MONTH'S HANDY TIP:
SMS scams
Whilst we're more than aware of the different types of scams and "money making schemes" we receive via our email (haven't we all won the lottery at least once?), it seems we're also increasingly receiving them via Mobile phone SMS.
Ever received the confusing text message from an unknown number wondering "how you are..."? Check out this abridged article on known SMS scams for some things to look out for. Or for more information, read the AMTA's guide for more help.
With email hoaxes and forwards, it's always best to check out a site like this one http://www.hoax-slayer.com/ prior to forwarding it to the required 50 people; however with SMS scams, it's not yet that easy.
Our thoughts? If you receive anything you're unsure of, just ignore it. If people want you bad enough, they'll call...
NEXT UPDATE:
What to look for in our next Funk-Elist newsletter:
- Mobile phone security, protection from lost & stolen, viruses etc
So until the next newsletter, take care.
Ciao for now
Please help!
***On 23 January 2007, Woolworths (Safeway) will be donating its entire supermarket's profits for the day to the drought relief. The funds will primarily be used by the CWA for immediate support for rural families with the remainder to help fund research into sustainable farming practices. This is expected to be in excess of $3 million dollars.
So if you do your normal shopping on the 23 January you will helping farming families who are current doing it tough.
