How to Apply a Screen Protector shield
|
Screen protectors or screen shields come with many of our skins and protective covers. So to help you out, below are a few tips for (hopefully) easy application of a screen protector.
Take your time! You really only get one go at this, so please don't rush. Slow and steady wins the race.
Step 1: Clean and Prepare
First, wash your hands thoroughly. Any lint, dirt, oils or grime on your hands will transfer onto the screen protection film and onto your iPhone, iPod or mobile phone screen. This will cause unsightly air bubbles.
For the same reasons as above, make sure you use a workspace that is clean and free from dirt/dust (see handy tips below). A well lit workspace also helps detect any dust.
Next, using a cleaning solution and micro-chamois polishing cloth, clean your iPhone or iPod touch completely and in particular the screen, taking time to ensure there are no fingerprints, smudges, dust or residue. For this, we used the iKlear Cleaning Kit.
Step 2: Installation
The screen protector films have a protective mask on both sides. Note there are stickers marked 1 and 2, indicating in which order the films are to be removed.
Carefully commence removing mask number 1. Only handling the surface covered by the mask, not the screen protector itself - or the screen.
Take your time to position it perfectly on the top of your iPhone or iPod touch, within the bevel edges. Once in position, using some cardboard, a credit card or cork backed coaster as a scorer, smooth out the bubbles and edges as you continue to remove the mask, working your way down the screen.
Once in place (and before removing mask number 2) get rid of any remaining air bubbles from centre out, gently wiping away any excess cleaning solution if applied to your screen (see handy tips below).
Now carefully remove mask number 2, ensuring you do not lift the screen protector whilst doing so.
Carefully remove any remaining bubbles.
Step 3: Stand back and admire...
Lastly, polish your screen and marvel at your excellent efforts in applying a tricky sticky screen protector!
Handy Tips
A good tip is to also spray your fingertips with a little cleaning solution too.
As well, you might like to try spraying a little cleaning solution onto the screen before applying the screen protector. This helps with being able to move it about to align it perfectly and assists with bubble removal. However, be extremely careful of openings and ports when wiping away any excess liquid. Do this step at your own risk.
We also placed the large micro-chamois cloth (from the iKlear kit) under the iPhone and screen protector films whilst working, to help minimise dust and lint.
